bittersweet, this poetry that flows,
steady as she goes, we all float along her for a piece,
and bittersweet, the memories we chose to carry in our boats,
the only part of over we can keep,
I know, or I believe that you are with me,
I can’t show how, it’s hardly scientific,
but I don’t doubt, since all we do is choose among the dreams,
I choose bittersweet..
once I had a friend who knew me well,
she could always tell when I was less than honest with myself,
we would look for fossils at the dig, her love for me was big,
my love for her was trapped inside a shell,
and the fossil is the way the rock remembers,
just like lightning leaves her memory on the tree,
there’s a shoebox in the basement full of letters
that I don’t read, that I don’t read..
but I know, or I believe that you are with me,
I can’t show how, there’s nothing you can point to,
but I don’t doubt, since all we do is choose among the dreams,
I choose.. I choose.. I choose..
