Secret

you may have a secret that you’re afraid to tell,
quiet coin-tossed wishes that you whisper to yourself,
no one needs to know it, and you’re sure that’s just as well,
until your little secret is your secret little hell,
+++ but it’s not a habit, it’s not a sin,
+++ it’s somewhere underneath your skin,
+++ they say that God won’t like it,
+++ have you asked Him yourself lately?

reaching for a reason for someone you could touch,
so you choose your profession but you can’t choose who you love,
you speak a secret language, and you hope someone picks up,
ah, but it’d be so much simpler to shout out at the top of your lungs
+++ that it’s not a habit, it’s not a sin,
+++ it’s somewhere underneath your skin
+++ you can try to fight it, but you can’t win,
+++ (who’d be the winner if you did?),
+++ if this whole life’s holy (and I say it is),
+++ surely you’re lovely just like this?
+++ and God’s not worried about a kiss,
+++ She’s got better…

you may have a secret that you’re afraid to tell,
don’t let your little secret be your secret little hell,
please don’t let your little secret be your secret little hell…
