Pandora couldn’t wait to check out the contents of that crate,
anticipating such great goodies lay inside,
but when she opened up that box out flew plague and chicken pox,
and every ill and ailment known to humankind,
can of worms, can of worms,
take off the lid, see what you did,
how they twist and squirm,
it was hard to put them in,
now we’ll never get’em back again,
oh tell me when will we ever learn, can of worms..
when politics gets stuck, sure seems like things need shaking up,
and one loud guy says he’s the right man for the job,
so you vote for that shrill fella, he’s a screamer and a yeller,
next thing you know, your country’s one big angry mob,
can of worms, can of worms,
take off the lid, see what you did,
how they twist and squirm,
it was hard to put them in,
now we’ll never get’em back again,
oh tell me when will we ever learn, can of
worms crawl in and worms crawl out,
we don’t like to talk about the end,
so we pretend..
history’s path is lined with ideas that sound fine,
then promptly prove to be disastrous, no shock there,
we should look before we leap, but we’ve got such happy feet,
we jump like crazed cliff divers, flying through the air,
can of worms, can of worms,
take off the lid, see what you did,
how they twist and squirm,
it was hard to put them in,
now we’ll never get’em back again,
oh tell me when will we ever learn,
tell me when will we ever learn,
tell me when will we ever learn, can of worms..
