in this town those of us who stay wave to those who move away,
and what it adds up to, I don’t know, a new one opens where the old one closed..so every day I ask myself if I should travel somewhere else?
somewhere where there’s more to do, as if I needed more to do,
as if I could afford to move to where the rent is through the roof,
in a bigger town, rising stars hang around,
and the streets are filled with every kid who knows what’s going down,
‘cause they’re in a bigger town, opportunities abound
for the kings and queens in magazines, until they lose their crowns..
do you believe in dinosaurs? they stand in line at grocery stores,
behind them with my loaf of bread, I’m waiting for the world to end,
as someday she must surely do, a new one opens when the old one’s through..
in a bigger town, rising stars hang around,
and the streets are filled with every kid who knows what’s going down,
‘cause they’re in a bigger town, opportunities abound
for the kings and queens in magazines, until they lose their crowns,
we could be kings and queens in magazines, till someone takes our crowns,
all of the kings and queens in magazines will someday lose their crowns…
