Finally, Winter

the trash can is chained to the tree by the park bench
so no one can steal it, but who’d steal it anyway?
snow is still falling, and throwing a wrench into everyone’s plans for the day,
+++++ finally, winter, you know that I’ve missed her..

you were composed, and goodbye was adieu,
as if you couldn’t find me, if you really wanted to,
I had a mind to go out on a limb,
but how could I climb to the end of an icicle?
+++++ finally, winter, red-faced and blustery,
+++++ finally, winter, she’ll keep me company,
+++++ finally, winter, you know that I’ve missed her,
+++++ it’s finally winter again…
+++ there’s snow in the swimming pool covering the baby blue liner,
+++ like your eyes I’d memorized, did you know what color mine are? ever?

by Friday the joggers and walkers and dogs
have packed down the trail till it’s hard as a snowball,
there’s powder in trash barrels, soon it will thaw,
so they won’t have to haul it away,
+++++ finally, winter, she’ll keep an eye on me,
+++++ finally, winter, halfway through January,
+++++ finally, winter, oh, how I’ve missed her,
+++++ it’s finally winter again…
