Keep Me Around

Written 1996

wear me out like an old shirt,
a mixed-up blessing or your favorite curse,
you could do better, maybe do worse, keep me around..

and wear me in like a new hat,
nothing I’d love any better than that,
you could pull me out if you think I might match, just keep me around..
+++ we both get a little bit lost,
+++ farther to fall if you don’t get caught
+++ threadbare hearts must’ve gone soft, keep me around

fold me up, tuck me away,
for a special occasion or a rainy day,
you never know what a stitch in time saves, keep me around
+++ and we both slip a little too far,
+++ easy to miss if you don’t look sharp,
+++ threadbare hearts, fallin’ down hard, keep me around…
